Donating

Making a Gift to Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC)

Why Donate to CVMC?
As a non-profit health care provider, CVMC has always relied on the generous support of our community. Your donations are vital in helping CVMC meet its mission: CVMC employees, medical staff and volunteers work together with other community organizations to meet the health care needs and improve the health of residents of central Vermont. The charitable giving of individuals, families, businesses and organizations has ensured that primary care, acute care and extended care has been accessible and of high quality in central Vermont for nearly 100 years. Though CVMC is part of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance, all donations made to CVMC remain fully with CVMC.

Ways You Can Donate:
CVMC has several programs to choose from:

Annual Fund
Make contributing to this fund a yearly tradition as you help ensure CVMC remains central to your well being. When giving to the Annual Fund, the donor does not specify where the contribution is to be used. Rather, the donor entrusts that this unrestricted gift will be thoughtfully used by the medical center where the need is greatest.

The 200 Club
The 200 Club is an association of public-spirited citizens in support of Central Vermont Medical Center and its mission. The 200 Club's financial contributions have been a significant asset to CVMC and the community for over 25 years. Learn more.

Endowment Fund
Investing in the future of CVMC, gifts to the endowment fund are gifts that may last forever (in perpetuity) or until the organization achieves a specified objective.

2005 - 2007 Capital Campaign

Memorial Gifts
Granting a gift of remembrance is a meaningful way of making a tribute in memory of someone special and dear to you.

Honor Gifts
Expressing your gratitude for the care your physician, nurse or health care professional provided by making a gift to CVMC in their honor is another way of contributing to the high quality, comprehensive care offered at CVMC.

Golf Tournament
CVMC's Fall Foliage Charity Golf Tournament takes place on the first Tuesday in October. This has been a successful fundraiser for Central Vermont Medical Center benefiting the People's Health and Wellness Clinic, CVMC's Partners in Palliative Care Program, CVMC's Birthing Center Renovation, as well as CVMC's new Radiation Oncology Center.  CVMC's 7th Annual Fall Foliage Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2008. If you are interested in sponsoring this event, please call the Community Relations and Development office at (802) 371-4196 for more information.

Woodridge Nursing Home
A gift to Woodridge Nursing Home can specifically be used to support the Licensed Nursing Assistant Scholarship Fund or the Woodridge Activity Fund.

Pledge Gifts
Pledge gifts allow multi-year commitments that are fulfilled over a period of generally three to five years. These gifts allow a donor to make a substantial commitment while dividing the fulfillment of the gift into smaller contributions.

Contributions may be made in several forms:

Cash
This is perhaps the simplest way to contribute and cash gifts are tax-deductible according to law. The convenience of online donations will be available in July, 2006.

Credit Card Payments:
CVMC accepts: Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express

Securities
Making a gift of appreciated assets, such as stocks, offers a two-fold benefit to the donor. The tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the donated securities, and the capital gains are generally avoided.

Please contact the Development Office at CVMC prior to making a gift of stock. Generally the donor's stock broker will need the following information:

DTC Eligible Securities
DTC #901, Bank of New York
N/O Chittenden Bank, A/C# 906930
Inst ID# 10526, Agent Bank # 80901
FBO: Central Vermont Medical Center, Inc.

The value of a stock gift is determined by averaging the low and high value of the stock on the day it is received by the above noted agent.

Tangible Assets
Assets of personal property such as antiques, artwork and jewelry can be contributed as provided by law.

Real Estate
Gifting real estate, the donor benefits from a tax deduction for the current fair market value of the property and avoids capital gains. A donor may also choose to retain the right of the use of the donated property.

Life Insurance
Donors may make a gift through their life insurance policy by simply designating CVMC as a beneficiary.

Life Income Arrangements
There are several ways in which a donor can receive income while making a meaningful charitable gift. In particular, one way is through a charitable gift annuity. In exchange for your gift to a charitable organization, you would receive a guaranteed, fixed income for life. The annual payment is based on your age at the time the gift is made and you would also qualify for a tax deduction for a portion of this gift.

Gifts by Will
A charitable gift may also be made through your will. A will is a foundation to your estate plan and allows you to state who will benefit from your legacy and in what proportions. A bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your total estate.
