My Pyramid - Getting StartedBy: Illene Siegel, RD CDE The food pyramid is a useful tool published by the USDA to guide us towards making healthy food choices and to be active every day. Along with the My Pyramid symbol, the website (www.mypyramid.gov) provides us with many options to learn more about good nutrition, establish our own personal nutrition goals, as well as basic messages about physical activity. Below is information to help you navigate through this new system. Check it out, it's really fun!
MyPyramid Symbol - Provides messages about physical activity, variety, portions, moderation, and gradual improvement. Check the "Anatomy of MyPyramid" handout by clicking here
MyPyramid Plan - To help you find the kinds and amounts of foods you should eat each day. Enter your age, gender and activity level to get your plan with an appropriate calorie level. Click here.
Inside the Pyramid - Leads you to detailed information about each food group. Here you can find tips and resources to help implement your food plan (i.e. what counts as an ounce of grain?). Click here.
MyPyramid Tracker - For individuals who want a detailed assessment and analysis of their current eating and physical habits. You can even track your progress for up to one year. Click here.
