The recyclable breast cushion is invisible to x-rays so it doesn't interfere with the image quality of the mammogram.
The discomfort many woman feel during a mammogram is a reason that some woman do not get regular screening exams. Also, the cold surfaces and hard edges of the mammography machine make the experience uncomfortable for some women. The breast cushion helps make the exam more comfortable. Because the woman is more relaxed during the procedure, it helps the mammography technologist get the best possible images.
