September 20, 2005 Berlin -- Don Walker of Montpelier, long-time CVMC Trustee and former Chair of the CVMC Board of Trustees, has been named General Chair of the capital campaign supporting Central Vermont Medical Center’s modernization and expansion project. Walker was recruited by CVMC board chair, Stephen Rauh, chair-elect John Nicholls and Daria Mason, CVMC’s President and CEO. Walker’s name was consistently mentioned in the funding feasibility study and by others associated with CVMC, as one who had the experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for such an effort. The campaign goal is $1.6 million. In accepting the position, Walker asked retired and well-known physician, Porter Dale to co-chair three of the six divisions of the campaign, which Dale agreed to do. “I am pleased to have been asked and happy to serve,” said Walker, “with Porter Dale along side and a lot of behind-the-scenes work having been completed, we are off to a strong start.” Walker, a well-known member of the central Vermont community, has been a resident of Montpelier since 1953. He and his father started Walker Motors Inc Ford and Jeep in Montpelier. His son Wade now owns and operates the dealership along with Walker Imports Volkswagen and Mazda. The CVMC Modernization and Renovation Project will cost $20.3 million and will upgrade basic infrastructure (heating, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical), renovate key areas of existing space, such as the Birthing Center and renovate and add space in such areas as surgical services and the day hospital and the laboratory. |
