March 10, 2006 Barre, Vt - Trustees of Central Vermont Medical Center have approved a plan to construct a new facility for the Barre Health Center on its current site on South Main Street.
“This has been part of our strategic planning for several years,” said Daniel Bagalio, Vice President of General Services for CVMC. The planning process included soliciting input from segments of the community, other health care providers and reviewing a community needs assessment, according to Bagalio. Requests for proposals were made to several area contractors with criteria that included a site preference within 1.5 miles of Barre City Hall, 10,000 to 15,000 square feet and increased parking spaces. After an analysis of proposals by several developers, medical center Trustees approved a plan by E. F. Wall & Associates, at its March 8 board meeting. The estimated cost of the project will be approximately $2.5 million. The project is expected to begin this spring and be ready for occupancy by the end of this year.
The existing site is large enough so that services may continue in the current Barre Health Center while construction is underway, according to Bagalio. When completed, the Health Center will include Barre Internal Medicine Physician Practice, Barre Pediatrics Physician Practice, satellite CVMC Rehabilitative Services, CVMC’s Aquatic Therapy Program, with limited space for X-Ray, blood drawing, wellness/nutrition/diabetic counseling and other counseling services.
