August 24, 2007 One of the first principles of marketing is to discover the needs and wants of prospective customers and to satisfy them. Central Vermont Medical Center’s communications department noticed that they did not see a lot of get-well cards arriving for patients by mail. Why? The average length of stay for a hospital patient and for a woman having a baby has decreased significantly. This doesn’t provide enough time for friends and family, particularly those from far-flung places, to go out and buy a card, send it, and allow time for it to go through the mail, arrive at its destination and be delivered to the patient’s room. Friends and family can now go to CVMC’s web site www.centraltoyourwellbeing.org , click on “send a well wish” choose a card and write a personal message. The cards include two get-well-soon choices, congratulations, two thinking-of-you cards and a YAY Babies are the best! card. Cards were designed for CVMC by noted Montpelier artist and graphic designer Maureen O’Conner Burgess.
