Teresa Fama M.D. has opened a rheumatology practice at Central Vermont Medical Center in the Mountainview Medical Building. Dr. Fama did her undergraduate work and received her MS in public policy analysis at the University of Rochester. She received her medical degree at the University of Vermont, and completed a residency in internal medicine and a rheumatology fellowship at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT. When asked about her interest in opening a practice in central Vermont, Dr. Fama replied that “It has always been my dream to practice in an area where access is an issue and central Vermont is a perfect area for me. Rheumatology is a field where there have been a lot of changes in terms of advances in treatments, the new biologic therapies, for example. I enjoy working with patients who have chronic conditions, because of the long-term doctor-patient relationships that develop.”
Dr. Fama has been published extensively. She will have will have two research projects accepted at the national rheumatology meeting in November in Boston (American College of Rheumatology). One of the projects, “Benefits of Reporting Bone Density Results Directly to Patients,” is with another CVMC physician , Dr. Priscilla Carr, a member of the team at Barre Internal Medicine. Appointments with Dr. Fama are available by calling (802)225-1750.
