December 31, 2007 Dr. Phil Brown, medical director for the Emergency Department at Central Vermont Medical Center, announced that because CVMC is committed to providing a secure, safe environment for patients and staff, all doors in and out of the treatment area of the Emergency Department will be locked.
The waiting room is not affected by this change. However, if a person comes to the ED to be with a friend or family member he/she will have to ask for entry.
“There is a national trend toward improving safety and security in Emergency Departments” said Dr. Brown. “This system also helps to ensure privacy for patients as required by HIPPA.”
